Applet Browser in libplasma

Plasma Applet Browser

The Plasma Applet Browser is now integrated into the libplasma and it will be available in the next Beta that is going to be published on Wednesday.

I’ve replaced the old drag-and-drop with a bit fancier stuff - now (as you can see in the screenshot) when you drag the plasmoids, you will be shown only the icons (possibly will be replaced by screenshots of plasmoids) not the whole “blue bars” you saw last time.

At the moment, you can add only one applet at a time by dragging, but that will be changed soon. If you use Oxygen style, you’ll encounter a nasty bug concerning the drag-and-drop-icons - there will be no icons, only nice shades of gray… but that’s not my fault.

  1. Cool! I’m really happy to see this kind of fine tuning happening! :-)

  2. Nice work! We definitely need this for 4.0 to work well…

    BTW Wednesday is tagging day, but release is one week later.

  3. Really sweet. Even if I’ve read about it before, and seen it “live”. But hey, icons on drag and drop? Great! But screenshots - that would be purely awesome. Then it would look like as if you dragged the actual plasmoid, wouldn’t it? (Although you wouldn’t see and animations)

    Oh. And I’m happy that you’ll be able to add multiple plasmoids at the same time. :D

    So it still will be Wednesday :) (I haven’t said “next Wednesday” :D)

    @Hans
    Well, I’m at the same time for and against the screenshots. There’s no need to mention the “for” reasons, they are obvious.

    The main thing that bothers me about screenshots is that transition between them and real plasmoid might not look good.

  8. Why not place the categories list on the panel laying on the left of the main list ? This will improve usability (less clicks to find required applet) and will look quite pretty (categories can have icons too) !

    That was the first implementation, but in the name of usability, Aaron told me to get rid of it :) (and he is the Boss)
