You are using an obsolete web browser, or you have the page styles (CSS) disabled. You'll be able to access this site, but only a visually simplified version.

Less “wasted” space

There was a wish once upon a time to make the section buttons in Lancelot smaller, that is narrower, because people thought that they waste too much space.

At first, I was reluctant since I didn’t see the point in doing it, but I changed my mind recently – Lancelot is pretty much feature-complete as it is (at least from my point of use/view), so I decided to implement something that I absolutely have no use for, but somebody else will. The fact that I’m missing the vertical tabs in Amarok could be another reason in making this :)

So, if you want to have the buttons as shown in the following image, just right-click them and choose the appropriate* option. (mind that this is available in trunk, not in the KDE SC 4.4).

Lancelot with narrow sections

*It says ‘toggle collapsed sections’ at the moment, but I’ll change it as soon as I think of a better name.

I’m going to Tokamak 4

  3. Must say I like that you left the default option as normal.

  4. @Fri13: Well, I was able to do whatever I wanted back in the days only I used Lancelot. But those times are long gone and now I have to think about the users as well. :)

So, even if I wanted, I couldn’t make some drastic change such as this a default.

  6. Congrats on the new feature! Its always nice to have options. I like it as it currently is though :) It looks cleaner and is easier to read.

Does it have animations yet? Its the only real missing feature (in the version of kubuntu 9.10).

  7. @Joao Leal: Yes, it now has some animations – like krunner and folderview. And there are more to come later.

Unfortunately, if you are using stable KDE, you’ll have to wait for KDE SC 4.5 for that.

  8. This is better but from design POV there are IMHO still some things that could be better:
-[Lock sessio] – doesn’t look good
-the favorites tab is useful but, there is still a lot of empty space ;-) , could you add an option for something like icon-only view?

  9. @frosty:
    - When the button is not wide enough, the text must be clipped.
    - I don’t think an icon-only mode will ever be in lancelot… but, then again, I said the same thing for collapsible section buttons :)
